Put a Pay Now button on every invoice
The easier you make it to pay, the sooner you get paid. A payment link on the invoice means a customer can settle up from their phone in about ten seconds.
Where it hurts
A PDF invoice with your bank details at the bottom asks the customer to do work: open their banking app, type in your sort code and account number, type the reference, hope they got it right. Every one of those steps is a chance to give up and do it later.
Later has a way of becoming much later. Meanwhile you're the one waiting, and if they fat-finger the reference you're back to matching a mystery payment by hand.
A one-click pay button removes all of that friction, and honestly it makes a small business look a good deal more professional too.
What I'd build
I'd connect Stripe to your accounts package so every invoice you send carries a Pay Now button. The customer taps it, pays by card or Apple Pay, and the payment flows straight back into Xero, QuickBooks or FreeAgent against that exact invoice, so it reconciles itself with the fee recorded correctly. It works alongside your normal bank transfer option, so customers who prefer that still have it. You just make paying you effortless.
