A quoting app that lets you price the job on site
The best time to send a quote is while you're still standing in the customer's kitchen and they're nodding along. The worst time is three days later when the enthusiasm has worn off.
Where it hurts
Right now the quote waits until you're back at a desk. You scribble measurements on a bit of paper, mean to write it up that evening, then it's ten o'clock and you're shattered. The quote goes out on Saturday if you're lucky.
By then the customer has had two other trades round and the moment's gone. You were the one they liked, but you were also the one they were still waiting to hear from.
And when you do finally sit down to type it, half the detail is missing because you can't remember exactly what they asked for.
What I'd build
I'd get you a mobile quoting setup that works from wherever your business already lives. If you're on Xero or QuickBooks, both have solid phone apps, and I'd build you a template with your rates and common line items already in, so most of a quote is picking from a list. Then the bit that saves the evening: instead of typing on a doorstep, you record a voice note ("kitchen rewire, twelve sockets, new consumer unit, two days with Dave") and an AI step turns it into a drafted quote, right line items, your prices against them, ready for you to check and send before you've left the drive. You stay in charge of the number; you just stop doing the typing.
What changes
- The customer gets a real quote while they're still keen
- Talk the job into your phone; a drafted quote comes back to check
- No more evenings spent writing up the day's jobs
- Nothing goes out unchecked: you approve every draft before it sends
